Taiwanese Pop Star Jolin Tsai Combines EDM + Ernest Hemingway in "Play" Video

Called “The Asian Queen of Dance“, 34 year old Taiwan-based pop
singer/songwriter/dancer Jolin Tsai is one of the biggest music stars in the
Eastern world. One of the highest paid performers in Asia, she has already
made 13 full length records, which have been released worldwide through
Universal Music, Sony, and, most recently, EMI. Her songs are filled with
either emotional, introspective lyrics, or over the top witticisms that have
earned her a die-hard fan base throughout Taiwan, China, Korea, and Japan.

Ms. Tsai’s concerts and videos are equally as extravagant and oft times
feature the artist mastering various forms of dance. With the video for her
new single, “Play“, going viral as we speak, the Asian superstar may soon
be a household name in North America as well.

“Play” is the first single from Jolin’s 13th studio album of the same name
and, taking a cue from Beyoncé, every track on the album will have a music
video. The visual aspects of the album and it’s videos are being overseen by
the creative production company, Blondz, who have worked with both Beyoncé
and Katy Perry. The video for “Play” is a stunning piece of work,
combining nudity, over the top dancing, insane costumes, video games, and,
bizarre, visual references to acclaimed American author Ernest Hemingway. The
result is one of the most colorful, intense, and over the top music videos
that we have ever seen, so it’s no surprise that the mini-film is going
viral throughout the world today. As for the tune itself, “Play” is a fun
slice of EDM pop that would certainly hold its own any American dance floor.
